How to Prepare For Your Studio Maternity Shoot

December 10, 2025

A maternity session is such a beautiful way to celebrate this season of your life. Your body is changing, your family is growing and these are moments you will never get back. I love being able to capture this stage for you in a calm, relaxed way so you can look back and remember exactly how it felt.

Here’s how to get the most out of your studio session.

Plan Your Outfits Ahead of Time

Have your outfits set and ready to go before the day. You’re welcome to bring as many outfit changes as you like. Some of the most popular options are:

  • A tight, body-hugging dress

  • Jeans with a bra and an oversized white shirt

  • A sheer robe for something soft and dreamy

I currently don’t offer a client wardrobe, so choosing pieces you feel confident, comfortable and beautiful in makes all the difference.

Save Pose Ideas You Love

Everyone poses differently and it helps so much when you have a few inspiration photos ready. Screenshot poses you feel drawn to from Pinterest or my Instagram. This gives me a clear idea of what you like and the overall vibe you’re going for.

If Siblings Are Coming Along

If older siblings are part of your session, a little practice at home works wonders. Simple things like:

  • Kisses on the belly

  • Gentle cuddles

  • Sitting with you

  • Holding your hands

Nothing needs to be perfect but warming them up beforehand helps them feel involved and excited. In the studio I keep things relaxed and fun, and I always have stickers as a reward for helping.

Most Importantly

Come ready to enjoy yourself. Let the time be slow, calm and all about you and your growing family. Maternity sessions are always full of emotion and connection and it’s such a privilege to photograph this chapter for you.
