Missed the Newborn Photography Boat? Here’s Why Older Babies in the Studio Are So Fun!

So, you had every intention of booking a newborn session… but the days flew by in a blur of feeding, nappies, and settling into life with your little one. Before you knew it, your baby was a few months old and you thought: “Oh no, I’ve missed it!”

The truth is — you haven’t missed out at all. While those squishy, sleepy newborn photos are beautiful, older babies bring their own magic into the studio. Here’s why photographing babies beyond the newborn stage is one of my favourite things to do:

1. Parents are more settled

By the time you bring your baby in a little later, you’re usually feeling more in a routine. That means less stress, more confidence, and an even more enjoyable session together.

2. Extra baby chunk!

Let’s be honest — a little extra squish makes those photos even cuter. Chubby cheeks, arm rolls, and those delicious baby thighs are all part of the joy of this stage.

3. More movement, more fun

As babies get older, they can roll, stretch, and hold their heads up for tummy time. This opens up so many new poses and angles that aren’t possible with sleepy newborns.

4. Smiles and giggles

Nothing compares to capturing your baby’s first smiles, gummy grins, and those contagious giggles. These joyful expressions make for the kind of photos you’ll treasure forever.

5. Every age is worth remembering

The truth is — there’s no “perfect” age for photos. Every stage of your baby’s life brings something new and wonderful, and every age is an opportunity to create memories you’ll never regret capturing.

So, if you’ve missed the newborn window, don’t stress for a second. Bring in your baby exactly as they are right now — because this age is worth celebrating too.
